Strathmore’s is a scam. I got suckered into joining and could not back out in 24 hours, which is the law. I tried to complain to BBB but they did not even respond. Maybe thery are overwhelmed with complaints about this outfit. $700 for 5 years I think it was. I sent back their framed wall thingy unopened to express my displeasure. I have not found one person in their directories I know. I have not had oen contact because of having my name there. On top of that 700 they called recently and wanted me to spend a further 200 on the directory. I guess not. Warn everyone you know about this outfit.

“We keep trying to scam you but you are not responding. Is something wrong?”

I am surprised that you were dumb enough to give someone $700 for absolutely nothing. They must be pretty convincing.

You ACTUALLY fell for this and gave them your money?

I filled in their form and put their info. Maybe they will contact themselves and give themselves an award. It’s obvious to me they are getting their contact info from domain name registration whois directories. If you do a whois on Strathmore, you’ll see they like to move their domain name servers around often.

from whois:

Here’s what we know about eliteprofessionalregistry.com:

* 1 registrar has maintained records for this domain since 2010-07-20
* This domain has changed name servers 5 times over 0 year.
* Hosted on 4 IP addresses over 0 years.
* View 18 ownership records archived since 2010-07-21 .

I’ve been getting this thing for about two years now – ever since completed my MBA. This tells me the school’s selling the info.

Here’s what I always do. (Feel free to enjoy!)

Whenever you sign up for something on line, you give them your legit email ( I use a secondary email for on line stuff – like Hotmail), but you give them a funny name. Personally, I have used the psuedonym ” Arturro Fartbaggio” and “Rollo Tomasi” several times. That way, when they sell your info, you know who sold it. Plus, it’ a good laugh when you open your email and see ” Dear Mr. Fartbagio” or “Rollo, we’ve been trying to reach you!”

On line fun.

Wow,I’ve just been selected for the 2012 directory with that same follow up mail of we’ve been spamming you to phish your details and your weirdly not responding!?
I’m taking rollo’s advice,it’s silly name time!!;-)

This Strathmore thing is ridiculous! I have been totally burned by this, and feel incredibly stupid for falling for such a scam. I have spent $1200, $550 of which was taken from my credit card without authorization, for a broken glass plaque and my picture on a site where I recognize NO ONE in my field. What a joke. I really want to do something about this to at least get my unauthorized money back, but I have no idea where to start.
My advice to anyone is DO NOT let them contact you!

If you are dumb enough to give them your money, you deserve to lose it. Darwinism at its finest.

Really, so thieves and crooks don’t have any responsibility? So if I can trick you into giving me money I’m entitled to it. That’s essentially what you’re saying. The money is going somewhere. So if the person being tricked deserves to lose it, then the scammer must deserve to receive it. That’s fucking retarded. It’s also a complete misunderstanding of Darwinism where the word “fit” doesn’t mean the ability to dominate, it means best suited for their environment so they have increased chances to procreate and for their offspring to survive. I bet Sherri is far more “fit” for this world than the scumbags running Strathmore.

As long as people are stupid enough to give these people money, they will not be going anywhere. Send me $700 and I will put your name on a plaque and in a phone book. Idiots.

And so you found this post completely by random. You weren’t curious and perhaps actually searched this term to learn more. Just accidentally ended up here and you have no idea how that happened. You sir are a fake and troll.

For kicks, I like to check out addresses on Google street view. It’s easy to find 26 Bond Street, Westbury, NY 11590. I particularly like the guy sitting on the office chair outside the front door, I think he is giving the Google car the finger!

I was contacted several years ago by a rep from Strathmore – understandably, I was skeptical, but I was talked into an introductory 2-year membership. I don’t know why everybody here has nothing but terrible things to say, but honestly I’ve had nothing but positive results – and the plaque that people seem to be bashing has been nothing but a useful tool – when an average Joe walks into my store and sees it, it changes their view of my business. Regardless of how it was obtained, it seems to at least draw attention to me and my work. I’ve made a few real contacts through the membership, so maybe it’s a niche market depending on your field, but spending less than $100 a year to expose people to my business hardly feels like a scam to me. I get calls on a daily basis from “consulting firms” who offer services such as “image consultation” and “personal brand marketing” for around $2500 a session.

In a ponzi scheme the first round of investors often do make money, but it’s still a scam.

Strathmore, like all the other vanity scams, are not official recognitions of anything. I could get my 8 year a plaque that will say whatever I want. They just want your money.

This is why it’s a scam. They only exist to trick you into thinking you’ve been personally selected or recommended to their organization because of your accomplishments. They hope that their machine generated emails that they send out randomly to hundreds of millions of people every year will net a few people who crave validation and will pay to have someone tell them they are awesome.

So the whole offer is a ruse and fake. Just because you were lucky enough to make a few contacts and your customers are ignorant of the pay to play nature of your award (and therefore impressed) doesn’t make it any less of a scam.

They just chose me !!!! LOL…I received my call today…and it was exactly like I have read in some of the posts…Stroked my ego for the accomplishments I have made and then gave me the price of membership…oh after they told me about the shiny plaque !!!! I told the lady that I would like to do some research before I opt in and she said if I don’t sign up right now !!! I won’t have the same position…I told her I do not sign up for anything , that I do not know about. She told me well maybe Strathmore isn’t for you and I quickly agreed and hung up….. I am so glad I wasn’t born on a banana boat ;)

Here is a quote from the letter I received from Strathmore’s Who’s Who dated January 9, 2012.

“Congratulations! We welcome you as a new member to Strathmore’s WHO’S WHO Worldwide. Please review your listing below, which is consistent with our style and standards. This is the way it will appear in the upcoming registry. Should you have any brief additions or corrections, please type them or print them clearly on this letter and return via mail, fax or e-mail as soon as possible. If a custom wall plaque has been ordered, it has been engraved and will be arriving shortly under separate cover.”
It is my opinion this is a scam and I have requested a refund of the money I paid them from my credit card company and they will secure the refund for me by contacting Strathmore’s Who’s Who and request a response from them and the credit card company won’t receive a response from them and will reverse the charges and refund the money to my credit card account. I also told my credit card company to block them from submitting further claims to my credit card and they will be blocked from doing so.
